Ventura County, CA – Dec. 11, 2009 – The Ventura County Emergency Planning Council honored ten organizations and two individuals for their contributions to emergency services in 2009 during the quarterly council meeting at the Ventura County Government Center in Ventura. The recipients are for:
- Best Emergency Implementation/Enhancement, Ventura County WebEOC: Ventura County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services.
- Best Emergency Preparedness Public Information Campaign, H1N1/seasonal flu: Ventura County Health Care Agency.
- Best Emergency Preparedness Drill/Exercise, H1N1 decision-making executive exercise: Ventura County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services, Ventura County Health Care Agency, Ventura County Fire Department and Ventura County Risk Management Department.
- Best Emergency Preparedness Plan, strategic national stockpile plan: Ventura County Public Health Department.
- Best Emergency Preparedness Training, countywide CERT training and CERT refresher training: Ventura County Fire Department.
- Best Emergency Community Program, countywide CERT training: Ventura County Fire Department.
- Best Emergency Volunteer Program: American Red Cross of Ventura County.
- The Disaster Service Worker Achievement Award: Cynthia Elliott and Erin Edinger, both of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services.
The council presents the awards annually to acknowledge the support and commitment of local organizations to disaster preparedness and recovery in Ventura County.
The meeting also included a special presentation on Hurricane Ike from Mark Sloan, Homeland Security and Emergency Management coordinator, from Texas.
